Sraosha (Sorush) is the angel of obedience, prayer, and conscience in Zoroastrian belief. He is the night guardian who protects sleeping humans from evil spirits. The rooster is his sacred animal — the rooster’s crowing at dawn is the signal that Sraosha has driven away the dark forces of the night.
He also plays a role in the judgment of souls after death — guiding souls at the Chinvat Bridge. Sraosha symbolizes perfect obedience to Ahura Mazda’s commands and nightly devotion. He is also known as the first angel to convey Zoroaster’s message to humanity.
