Zal is Rostam’s father and one of the most extraordinary figures of Iranian mythology. Born with snow-white hair, Zal was considered an ill omen by his father Sam and abandoned on Mount Alborz. However, the legendary bird Simorgh found him, took him to her nest, and raised him.
The Simorgh gave Zal wisdom, knowledge of healing herbs, and three magical feathers. Years later his father Sam, filled with regret, reclaimed Zal. His love for the Kabul princess Rudabe echoes Romeo and Juliet — two children of enemy families who united. Zal’s white hair symbolizes the struggle against fate and value beyond outward appearance.
