The Taltos is a born-selected shaman in Hungarian folk belief. Born with seven teeth instead of six, or with extra fingers, a Taltos has the ability to communicate with the spirit world, enter trance states, and shapeshift into animal forms.
During storms, Taltos engage in spiritual battles — fighting evil forces in the form of white bulls or flames of fire. They heal illnesses, find lost souls, and see the future. Even after the adoption of Christianity, Hungarian villages continued to consult Taltos. The tradition shares deep parallels with Central Asian Turkic shamanism.
