The Simorgh is the most sacred and wise being of Iranian mythology. Depicted as an enormous bird with the magnificence of a peacock and a dog-like face, the Simorgh is an immortal creature that dwells on the peak of Mount Alborz (Qaf). It is the source of all wisdom and healing.
In the Shahnameh, the Simorgh took in and raised Zal (Rostam’s father), who was abandoned by his father because he was born with white hair. It gave Zal three feathers — when in danger, burning one feather would summon the Simorgh. It later assisted Rudabe with healing herbs during Rostam’s birth. The Simorgh symbolizes motherhood, wisdom, and cosmic guardianship.
