Leviathan is the colossal sea monster that God created at the beginning of creation in Jewish mythology. Described in the Book of Job, this being is so powerful that no human weapon can harm it, fire and smoke pour from its mouth, and its eyes shine like the dawn.
According to Kabbalistic tradition, God created a male and female Leviathan at the beginning; however, since their multiplication would destroy the world, He killed the female. On the Day of Judgment, Leviathan’s flesh will be served as a feast for the righteous. Leviathan is a symbol of uncontrollable cosmic chaos and the unknown depths of the seas.
