Present at Rostam’s side throughout all his adventures, Rakhsh protected his sleeping master from lions and dragons. During the seven labors he carried Rostam and trampled enemies on battlefields. His loyalty is superhuman — he refuses to live without his master. The death of Rostam and Rakhsh together is one of the most touching scenes in Iranian literature. Rakhsh is the immortal symbol of loyalty and battle companionship.
