Ahriman (Angra Mainyu) is the opposing force in Zoroastrian cosmology, the source of all evil, falsehood, and chaos. As the eternal enemy of Ahura Mazda, he sends evil, disease, and death into the universe from his realm of darkness. He created serpents, scorpions, and harmful creatures.
Ahriman’s army consists of Divs (demons) and evil spirits. He tempts humans toward lies, theft, and immorality. According to Zoroastrian belief, at the end of time Ahura Mazda will achieve final victory and Ahriman will be destroyed forever. Ahriman is one of the oldest archetypes of absolute evil and moral corruption.
